Homemade Applesauce!

Homemade applesauce...so delicious, yet so simple!  It's nearly the end of the harvest season, and there is the biggest selection of apples you'll see all year in the stores and at the farmer's markets.  I've been wanting to go apple picking for about two months now, but I just didn't get to it as I'd hoped.  Then, this afternoon, our neighbor told us to help ourselves to the apples from her tree.  What luck!  We went to her yard, and within a few minutes our buckets were overflowing with beautiful, bright red, gold high-lighted apples, with very minimal blemishes...just a couple so that we knew these apples were real!

They were in all sizes to fit the helping hands of all in our family, including our baby!

Time to get to work!  First, peel the apples,

cut into quarters and core.

Throw them in a pot...

add water, and simmer for 20-30 minutes until tender.

Depending how chunky you like your sauce, stir with a large fork, or with a whisk for a smoother consistency.

These apples were so sweet that no sugar was needed, but if your mouth puckers up a bit, add some sugar, and dust with cinnamon and nutmeg.  Enjoy!

Don't forget the shopping list!

4-5 medium apples, peeled and chopped in quarters
1/2 cup water
Sugar, to taste (optional)
Cinnamon, Nutmeg (optional)

From one hearty appletite to another...happy cooking!
